Jake is 15 months old!

You just turned 15 months old! I know it's not a major mile stone but each month bring with it new things you can do and new challenges!

The day after you turned 15 months old you woke up from your nap in such a good mood. We played peek-a-boo for a little bit and just played around.

You are such a joy!

I cherish these sweet, little moments with you.

After you wake up from your nap you hand me your binkey, it's so cute. You know you have to give it up before you get out to play. I love that you are used to that and hand it over with out any issues!

You found another binkey in your bed, you little stinker.

Peek-A-Boo!!!

Then I popped my head over the crib and said, "boo!". You giggled and squealed!

You couldn't stand the anticipation of mommy peeking her head over so you peeked!!

here you go mama

Cute....

Cute....

Cute!!!

I feel like I should call this the many faces of Jake...

Oh....

Oh????

This is your serious face.

Pondering the deep things of life...

So silly, I think you saw a bird out side and got really excited!! "Brr!! Brr!!" That is how you say bird, you love birds.

Mommy, why do you have that camera in my face.

Searching for more birds.

Jake, you are such a joy. I know that someday you will have a sibling (Lord willing) and things will change. Know that I enjoy these little moments. I cherish these little times in my heart. I tuck them away and hold them dear. These are the moments that I became a mom for, these times make all the hard times bearable. There are many more sweet times than bad. I love our life with you. You have helped me convince daddy to have three kids! You are so fun that daddy think we can have more! We'll see what happens. But for now, I'm just loving this mommy stuff!!

Little Sleeper

A few weeks ago your daddy and I walked in after a nap time to find you sleeping like this....

Sitting and folded over on your blanket!

We had to wake you up to go somewhere...you are a slow waker-uper

You were pretty surprised to see us in your room. Sorry buddy.

I still love to watch you sleep, it's the only time you are still. Your sleepy face is the same as when you were an infant and for a split second you are still my little baby. Then you wake up and start talking and running around. Don't get me wrong, I love how you are growing up. You are a wonderful boy!!

Long time, no see

This past weekend Mommy and Daddy went to winter camp with the high schoolers. You went and spent the weekend with Nana, Papa, Uncle Matt and Uncle Alex. It was the first time I have even left you over night, let alone for multiple days!! I think you handled it much better than me. I made up silly things in me head, like you would forget I was your mommy, you would hate me or not want me to be your mommy any more. I knew these things were far from the truth but I still thought them. I was so nervous. You have been my world for the past 14 months. I have spent almost all of my time with you, caring for you or thinking about you. It was so strange to not have you on my hip all weekend. I felt lighter, and not in a way I enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, a little break was nice and I had a great time with the high schoolers but, part of my world was missing. You learned something new when you stayed at Nana and Papa's. You learned how you "pound it"! It's too cute, you put out your little fist and bump knuckles with everyone! It's really sweet. I also discovered that you have become more self aware this weekend. You now point to your eyes and nose when asked where they are and, you know how you are. I asked you this morning, "Where is Jake?" and you pointed to yourself and said, "Jake!". You get quite proud of your self when you learn something new, as you should. It's so sweet to see you learning and growing.  The funniest part about being back together, you are now testing me like crazy. I thought you might cry when you saw daddy and I or the first time or you might ignore us to "punish" us but no, you decided to act out. You banged on the table during our reunion dinner at Chevy's. You very well know you aren't allowed to bang on the table. But never the less you decided to test that waters. Daddy even had to take you out side to have a little chat at one point. You are a little line pusher and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love you my boy. It is so good to be back together. Your daddy missed you like crazy and couldn't wait to snuggle with you. You hung out with him on Monday and watched Star Wars! You love being with your daddy! It's so sweet to see the two of you bond and your love for one another grow so deep. Daddy said the other day that he wants 10 more just like you, so get ready for some brothers (and sisters if mommy has anything to say about it!) In good time you will have some, but for now, you are our boy and we like it that way

Today is your second Valentines Day. To tell you the truth, I don't remember last Valentines Day very well. You were only two months old! I think we stayed home and I made Swedish pancakes!

You look very different this Valentines Day!

You have grown quite a bit!

Leaning on the window, you look so grown up!

 Yelling at the birds outside!

You are growing up so fast!

You are such a sweet boy.

Love, in it's deepest form, can't even describe the way I feel about you!

Mommy and Daddy love you so so so so so so much!!

You make us smile!

You are so funny and sweet!

You melt my heart!

You have made us complete!

I love you my boy!

Happy Valentines Day little man!!

14 Months Old!!

You turned 14 months old this week. It's amazing to me that you are still growing and changing everyday.

Right now:

You have 12 teeth and are working hard on those incisors! We brush your teeth every night and you love it!

You wear size 12 months-2T clothes. Quite the span. You need the length of the bigger sizes but they just fall off of your waist!

You love birds and dogs well, really, everything in nature. You also love people!

You are attempting to eat with a spoon and fork independently.

You know what sound Monkeys, Elephants, Lions, Cow, Sheep and Dogs make.

You know where your eyes, nose, mouth, ears, head, knee, toes and tummy are.

You love to read books. You read them on your own and you love to have them read to you!

In this picture you were running toward me and saying 'Ma-ma'. You have started saying my name when you want me or when you are talking about me. It makes my heart melt every time!

You are mischievous. You push the rules. I'll tell you not to do something and you will look at me and do it. Or half do it, to see if that is ok! You are too funny. I love that you don't always listen. It makes you normal. It makes life fun for me. I have to try to not laugh at all the funny stuff you do and discipline you. This parenting stuff is no joke! It takes time and effort. We sat on the couch the other day for 15 min. because you refused to say, sorry, after you hit me. Some may think that harsh. But I know you can say sorry. You know you shouldn't hit. Hitting isn't nice at all and I wanted to nip it in the bud as soon as possible. You sat and cried, tried to distract us and eventually looked at me and said sorry. I'll give it to you, you are persistent but, Mommy is going to win. I have to, other wise you will think it's ok to hit, or you can just cry to get out of punishment and consequence. Thats not how the world works. We love you and promise to teach you how to be the best you can be. To love and respect people. "We love because He first loved us!"

You are trying so hard to talk and communicate with us. You do a very good job. You babble these long stories! It's really cute!

You are learning to say please and thank you. You don't say them independently but I know you will get there.

Sometimes I think you have deep thoughts. I just look in your eyes and know that you know more than you can communicate.

You follow verbal instructions very well. You understand our conversations and throw your own thoughts in! We have begun to really be careful with what we say around you, you repeat everything!

This picture warms my heart. Daddy asked you, "where's mama?". You turned, pointed, smiled really big and said 'mama'!

Your daddy said that boys have a deep connection to their mom, he said that he is kind of jealous that we will always have that bond. I know that you love your daddy. Even if you do reach for him as often as me, you still talk about him all the time when he's at work. You point to pictures of mommy and daddy and say, 'dada!'. You love us both and you are beginning to show it. We love you more than words can even come close to describing. We love you with our lives. We do things just to make your life better! You are our world little man! You are the best I could have even hoped for.

Happy 14 Months love bug!

Sweet and Sour

Sweet:
Yesterday was your daddy's birthday! Grandma, Grandpa, Nana, Papa, Uncle Matt, Uncle Alex, Uncle Chris and Aunt Desiree all came with us to Chevy's to celebrate. You got so excited when you saw uncle Alex, you started clapping! You love when all of your family is together! You just soak up all of the attention!

Sour:
Today you hit me for the first time. I was holding you and you wanted to get down. Instead of using your words you smacked me in the side of the head. We had a little chat and you apologized. Its hard to teach you that something hurts when you hardly feel pain. I think you understand that you shouldn't hit, but you like to test those boundaries! There is no denying you are our child. It is exhausting disciplining and teaching you and I get so sick of hearing my own voice! I try to use other words than just lots of 'NO!' but it's really hard to spit out sentences when you are about to pull a lamp on your head! Just so you know, you have never pulled a lamp on to your head, you almost did. Luckily you listened to me and I pulled you out of the way! Even in your sour moments there are still glimmers of sweetness. You do listen very well. Each day there is something new. I love this adventure! It really is all in the way you look at it and the things you choose to make a big deal!

You are truly a delight!

Love, Mommy/ loves you sweet or sour!

Little Parrot

You repeat everything we say! The other day we had dinner with grandma, grandpa and Mr and Mrs. Toland (daddy and I have decided that you should refer to adults as Mr. or Mrs. but with Chris and Desiree you can call them aunt and uncle). Anyway, we were done with dinner and you were walking around. Grandma cautioned you and said, "you would go, boom baby!" and you repeated "boom baby" and you threw your hand down! We all looked at each other and started laughing! Sometimes it amazes me what you can say! When you don't think about it, you aren't asked or made to say anything, you say big words. You have even repeated, avocado! My favorite word you say is, frisbee, you say, "biz-bee". It's the cutest thing I have ever heard! You love to point to things abs name them, you are so proud. I love teaching you the names of things, you repeat what I say and then it's in your head. Amazing!

Love,
Mommy/ proud of her little parrot

Cleaning Up

Jake, I have to hand it to you, you are smart. Too smart for your own good!! Awhile back you started helping me clean up after meals. I hand you a wipe and you would wipe down your highchair tray. We all thought it was really cute. We can't clean up with out you helping, it helps turn something unpleasant into something slightly fun. Now you have started wiping your mouth! The first time you did it, you did great. Then you started doing this funny thing. You hold the wipe in front of your mouth and move your jaw back and forth. I have to get it on video, my description isn't doing it justice. You look at me like, "I'm wiping my mouth mom, so you don't have to!". It cracks me up! Do you think you are deceiving me? Your little jaw just moving back and forth without the wipe even touching anything! Amazing. Is this what I have to look forward to? You trying to trick me for the rest of your life? It could be worse, at least life will be entertaining!

Love,
Mommy/I love that you are silly!

You are a genius!!

I'm always so impressed by what you understand and the concepts that you grasp at such a young age!

The other night at dinner I told you to put your water in the cup holder on your tray with just verbal commands, no showing you where the cup holder was and you took your cup and plopped it right in the cup holder. This is even cooler to me because for so long you didn't allow anything on your tray. Not even my arm, you would push it off and look at me like I was crazy for having my arm on YOUR tray! Your cup has gotten tossed many times from your tray, so I was very excited when you put your sippy in it's 'special spot' and left it there for a whole meal.

Another incident proving to me how smart you are happened the other night, just before bath time. You were running around naked, I know that I take some risks with having you naked, but I feel like every kid needs some naked time. What better place than a tiled bathroom? You were walking around while I was filling the tub and then you got quiet. This is my cue that you are getting into something you shouldn't. So I turned around to see you banging on the lid to the toilet, peeing on the floor. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a coincident that you walked over to the toilet and peed. You were walking around and then walked over to the toilet and were banging on the baby proofed lid like, mom this thing won't open! It was funny. I cleaned you off, put you in the tub and cleaned the floor! All the while amazed that you have grasped the concept of going in the potty.

You call just about everything "ba" for ball but you are quickly learning the names to everything. You point to things and look at us waiting to learn the name of whatever object caught you fancy. It is such a joy to teach you. To help you learn about the world. I knew you would be fun but I just love teaching you new things. The grocery store is the best. You point to apples, I tell you what they are and you repeat "a-po". My favorite is Avocado, you say "ca-do" or "Avo". Too cute.

Oh, you also love to share. What one year old loves to share? You walk around handing people toys and objects wanting them to play with you or teach you! I love that you love people, even when it makes eating out difficult, you would rather wave to everyone than eat! You have made many peoples days with just a smile. You have a gift Jakey. You connect with people in a special way, even now!

Well, my boy, I'm convinced you are a genius! Every mom is convinced their kid is the smartest kid around! But I'm sticking by my claim. I promise to not over do it though. No "my baby can read" or memorizing things at a young age. We will play fun learning games and have a great time learning about the beautiful world we live in!

Love,
Mommy/contemplating home-schooling you.

12 Months Old

I know this is super late. Next week you will be 13 months! But here are some cute 12 month pictures of you!
you really like the hat I made for you!

I love this face!

you look so innocent!

there's a cute smile!!

this is one of my favorite pictures of you!

silly boy!

"mom, i don't like this hat on my head!"

you loved playing with a pom pom!

cute little boy!

this is your baby model pose

pointing and saying "ooo"

'I didn't do it'

This is my favorite face you make!

learning to walk.

Here are some facts about you:

At this point you are wearing some 24month clothes, some 18 month and even some 12 month clothes. It just depends on the item of clothing.

You have 9 almost 10 teeth (all 8 front middle and your right molar). We brush your teeth and you love it. Daddy is trying to teach you how to spit. I hope that doesn't back fire!

You stand independently and take a few steps every so often but are not walking. I walked early, around 9 months so, I'm really glad that you have taken your time. That seems to be the way you do things. In your own time, when you feel capable. You are working on getting your standing down first and then you will walk when you feel ready! You are a great crawler and get around just fine without walking for now. It's giving me a little time to get used to your mobility and now I think I am prepared for you to walk. Everything is baby proofed!!

You say, da-da, mama, dog, ball, thank you, all done, hi, up, and just about anything we say you will repeat! We are not introducing baby signs, ask me why we didn't some time, I have my reasons.

You take two, two hour naps a day, usually. I think the first nap will be dropped here pretty soon. You sleep 11-12 hours every night. Your bed time is 9pm, this time works best for us, you get to eat dinner with the family, play a little, spend time with daddy, take a bath and go to bed. Plus it allows me to get up before you and get somethings done. For us this works best.

You eat 3 meals a day and a bed time bottle. You eat what we eat and you refuse to eat baby food. You won't touch applesauce because you think it's baby food!! You are a funny boy. We also switched you over to whole milk, with no issues at all. You won't drink it cold and you only have it at bed time. You drink water the rest of the day. We tried giving you some juice, I'm not a fan of the empty calories juice has but, we tried some. The only time you get diaper rash is when we give you juice so, no juice! You love water anyway, and it's much healthier for you!

As you are growing your wants and desires are becoming more and more clear. You have learned the power of the word "up" and use it every chance you get! your personality is showing more and more. I love that you are who God created you to be. I get to help shape your character but your personality was designed by the creator of the universe and it's amazing to see who he created you to be! It gives me a little insight to His heart!

Well, my boy, you are a delight! I have loved these past months. I don't know how I ever lived before you came along. You have brought so much to our lives. You are the apple of your daddy's eye. It gives me so much joy to watch you two play. You adore him and already look up to him. I love that your relationships with each of us are different, we each take different roles in your life. You have a huge heart and I can tell you will love people. You also love to challenge the rules. You are just like your mommy and daddy, I'm sorry! We will do our best to pass on the wisdom we have learned in our short lives to you, hopefully it will save you some heart ache.

Love,
Mommy/still in denial that you are 12 months old!!
